Product Description

Course Objective

The objective of this syllabus is for the student to gain the necessary aeronautical skill, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of a Sport Pilot Certificate with a log book endorsement in fixed-wing aircraft.

Sport Pilot Certification Course

The Sport Pilot Certificate has 2 requirements: Aeronautical Skill and Aeronautical Knowledge. This syllabus is written to satisfy both requirements. The syllabus is presented in four Stages.

Private Pilot Certification Course

The Private Pilot Certificate course includes a transition guide and lesson plans to transition from Sport Pilot (or Sport Pilot in-training) to a Private Pilot.

Sport Pilot CFI Certificate Course

Includes lesson plans for Sport Pilot CFI training.

Lesson Plan and Testing Procedures

Each module contains homework associated with the ground lessons and flight lessons. The instructor goes through the lesson plans and checks off the specific items the student must accomplish before moving on to the next lesson.

The syllabus references the Materials above and when to use the materials throughout the Training course. Instructors using this syllabus must ensure current Practical Test Standards are upheld. The training syllabus contains three question banks from which written exams can be compiled at the end of each stage of training. The exams test the student on both ground and flight training material covered in each stage. This exam must be passed with a minimum score of 70%, and reconciled to 100%, in order to proceed to the next stage.

It is essential the completion standards of each flight lesson be completed before the next flight lesson.

Paul's Recommendation

  • For the Sport and Private Pilot student enrolled in a guided program with an instructor.
  • For the self-guided student who wants a guide that outlines exactly what they need to learn before taking lessons with Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)...saving them time and money.
  • For the CFI applicant preparing to become a CFI.
  • For a CFI looking for a foundation of a comprehensive training program that includes everything to teach student pilots.

The syllabus is a pilot training "cookbook" with all the ingredients arranged in a logical step-by-step order through flight training and ground school. It recommends all of the books, DVD's, and CD's needed for a complete program...leaving nothing out.

It guides the instructor/student on what to teach/study and what not to teach/study in the recommended FAA handbooks. The comprehensive flight training is presented in the most efficient manner for flight proficiency and safety. The ground school portion provides the aeronautical knowledge for operating procedures and regulations.

Typically the first item a guided or self-directed student pilot will purchase for a comprehensive "road map" outlining the other training materials required for a complete education in learning how to fly.

Typically the first item a flight instructor will purchase when building a thorough and comprehensive training program for their student pilots.

The student pilot uses this as a workbook with the assignments given for each module or can go through for a self directed course.

The instructor uses this for the core curriculum of a pilot training program with lesson plans and task guide.

Use of the syllabus ensures that the flight instructor has covered everything necessary, and in the most efficient manner, including flight proficiency and safety, aeronautical knowledge, operating procedures and regulations.

Use of the syllabus helps the student and instructor know the progress being made toward the student learning to fly, at what stage of learning the student is at, and what the next step in the training program.

I've found using the syllabus makes my job as an instructor so much easier because I know exactly what has been covered with the student and what is yet to cover. I've also found the student pilots really like the logical order the information is presented and the fact that they know exactly where they're at in their flight training and ground school.
